Our tutors

The people behind the provision.

Qualified to teach. Trained to support.

Our tutors are not supply cover or a stopgap. They are experienced, qualified professionals who have chosen to work in alternative provision because they believe in it, and in the young people it serves.

Qualified to teach. Trained to support.

Every tutor working with Fylde AP holds Qualified Teacher Status. They bring classroom experience from a range of settings, mainstream, special, and alternative provision, and many have worked with some of the most complex and vulnerable young people in education.

We are a small, close-knit team. That means every tutor is known to our leadership, carefully matched to each pupil, and supported throughout every placement. Quality is not something we audit at the end. It is something we build in from the start.

Beyond QTS

What every Fylde AP tutor brings

Safeguarding trained

All tutors receive safeguarding training in line with current statutory guidance and are fully briefed on our safeguarding procedures before working with any pupil. Enhanced DBS checks and Update Service compliance are non-negotiable.

Trauma-informed

Our tutors understand that behaviour is communication, and that many of the young people we work with carry experiences that have shaped how they feel about adults and about learning. Patience, consistency, and non-judgement are not optional extras. They are how we work.

SEND and complex needs experienced

Our team has extensive experience across a wide range of need, including autism, ADHD, PDA, SEMH, and other complex profiles. They know how to adapt their approach, adjust their expectations, and find the way in for a pupil who has been told, by experience if not by words, that education is not for them.

Relationship-builders

This might sound simple, but it is the hardest and most important thing. Our tutors are people who genuinely like young people, who are curious about them, who find them interesting, and who show up consistently. For many of our pupils, that consistency is something they have not had before. It matters enormously.

Leadership

Small enough to care. Expert enough to deliver.

Fylde AP is founded and led by a QTS-qualified teacher and qualified Designated Safeguarding Lead, with direct experience of alternative provision delivery, SEND casework, and multi-agency working.

We are deliberately small. That means every tutor is known to our leadership, every pupil is known to their tutor, and nothing falls through the gaps. When you commission a placement with us, you are working with a small, specialist team, not an agency. We know every pupil, and we work closely with you throughout.

  • Safeguarding leadership

Rachel is the founder and director of Fylde AP and its Designated Safeguarding Lead. She trained and taught in Tower Hamlets, London, spending ten years as a classroom teacher, before moving into specialist tutoring and alternative provision. Before teaching, she worked for a local authority supporting people experiencing homelessness, which shaped her multi-agency approach. A maths tutor with particular expertise in the move from primary to secondary school, she has helped many pupils with SEND and SEMH needs who were significantly underachieving to make strong progress and rediscover their confidence. Although she now tutors less, she still enjoys teaching when she can and is always present in the centre, getting to know every pupil and building the positive relationships that make it a nurturing place to learn.
